BUTTOCKS AUGMENTATION

The Buttock Augmentation procedures are for individuals unable to develop proportionate gluteal muscles, lack buttock fat, or simply desires an augmented buttock area. Two options exist for the augmentation of the buttocks area, one option consists of the use of silicone implants or the harvesting of fat from other areas of your body and injecting it into the buttocks. The decision should be analyzed and decided in conjunction with your surgeon.

With the fat grafting approach a plentitude of existing body fat in areas for harvest such as flanks, back, thighs, abdomen or arms is required. Transplantation of the fat is dependent on how much of it receives an adequate blood supply. In areas deemed “fatty areas” the fat graft has a high chance of survival and maintenance such as the buttock areas or areas of high vascularity such as the lips. In these areas fat will survive and avoid fat necrosis (fat cell death) and reabsorption. If fat does not survive the transplant the only downside will be a decrease in volume of the area as it will be reabsorbed without any other complication.

In preparation for your surgery a detailed pre-operative information packet with in depth explanations will be complimentary to the discussion with your surgeon. Medications such as anticoagulants “blood thinners” or aspirin containing medications should be discontinued, vitamins and supplements should also be discontinued prior to surgery. Pre operative blood work is also performed.

In the Buttock Implant procedure the implant is placed between the fascia (the thick, white connective tissue, covering the actual muscle) and the muscle itself. The implants are placed above the sitting area so you never actually sit on them. To get a better idea as to where Buttock implants would be placed, sit down, with good posture and feel where your jean back pockets are (or would be) implants will be placed in this area.

Incisions are made where the cheek meets the back of the thigh. Within a year, after full maturation of the scar it will be very difficult to differentiate it from the rest of your skin. Another option for incision can be made hidden between both butt cheeks, this approach is more concealed but has a higher infection rate given its location.

In the Micro Fat Grafting Technique the fat is gently removed using low-vacuum liposuction through a delicate canula. The fat particles are then purified, inserted into the layers of the buttocks through a single 1/8" incision. The tiny droplets of fat are carefully implanted near tiny vessels so that improved vascularity and adequate blood supply is given to the newly placed fat cells to increase chances for survival.

The recovery for the Micro Fat Grafting: is not as difficult as augmentation with implants or major liposuction. A stay near the clinic for 3 to 4 days in case of complications and for a first week follow-up is highly recommended. After 5-7 days clearance to return to work will be given and by 3 weeks normal activities can be resumed. weeks,

Risks & Complications

Implants: There is the possibility of infection and a higher shifting rate. Especially in those patients who do not allow proper recovery time. Other reported complications are: hematoma, seroma, misplacement, rotation, asymmetry and the implant "falling" to a lower region, ending up with a 'saggy' appearance. This is normally due to doing too much, too soon and not letting the implant settle correctly. An adequate healing time is necessary for the surgery to have a satisfactory outcome.
