CHIN IMPLANT
Cosmetic chin surgery aims to give you a stronger, firmer chin, with a better profile through the insertion of a silicone implant and modification of soft tissues in the area. The procedure is usually done on an outpatient surgery center or a hospital operating room under local anesthesia and sedation.
Insertion of a chin implant may take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. During the procedure, the surgeon selects the proper size and shape implant to enhance your appearance and insert it into a pocket over the front of the jawbone. The incision to create the pocket and insertion of the implant is placed inside de mouth (along the lower lip) or in the skin just under the chin area. Usually, the chin is taped and bandaged after surgery to minimize swelling and discomfort. Sutures in the skin will be removed in five to seven days. If an intra-oral incision is used, the sutures will dissolve in the weeks to come.
Discomfort and swelling in the affected area for several days is common. Temporary difficulty with smiling and talking stiffness, brushing and flossing your teeth will be more difficult than usual. The mouth won't open as fully as it usually does, especially if your surgery wan done through an incision in your inner lower lip. Bruising may be visible around the chin and neck and could be numb for at least 2 weeks and often as long as 6 weeks. Exercise activities and work should be avoided for the first week.
Post Op. Instructions:
1- Gentle or no flossing for a week.
2- Gentle brushing, often with a child's toothbrush.
